I was driving in to work today and as usual, I had the radio on. Normally I listen to Steve Harvey or Tom Joyner, but here in Miami we just picked up the Rickey Smiley Morning Show. I decided to take a listen and enjoyed the jokes and radio banter. What bothered me was the music. I’m not an old guy by any means and I understand fads and trends. But damn it, if I hear one more song where someone sounds like SoundWave from the Transformers, I might just go jump off a bridge!!!
These people don’t sing or rap anymore unless its computerized. If you’re over 25, you know this sound isn’t new. Roger and Zapp made hits with this style back in the day, especially with their biggest hit Computer Love I always have to explain to my younger relatives that T-Pain and Lil Wayne, aren’t the originators of this sound.
So anyways, when T-Pain brought it back, I thought it was kind of catchy. But enough is enough damn it! I can’t take it anymore. Every song on the radio sounds like the same person is singing. I don’t know if the person can sing or not because its all computered up. Rappers aren’t even rapping anymore, they all singing on the track trying to be hard. Aside from Snoop’s “Sensual Seduction”, which is like a throwback/homage track, I’m not really feeling any of this Technically Enhanced music.
Thank goodness for Alicia Keys, Common, Raheem Devaughn, and Musiq Souldchild to name a few! Its nice to know that somebody out there can still use their own voice in the music industry.
Also, the next time somebody tells me Plies is great, they’re getting dropkicked!!! Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I listen to dude and that shit just sounds horrible to me! What in the hell are you talkin’ about? Who the hell said he could go last on “I’m so hood”? Usually the last dude is fire and brings the song home. Too bad I can’t cut it off after Rick Ross verse in the club, I’m just not feeling Plies. The young cats in my fam think Plies is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Can you believe one of my cousins actually said Andre 3000 sucked? Are you kidding me?
Has anything Plies ever written sound anything like these verses… I rest my damn case.
I invite any fans of this dude Plies to holla at me and explain what it is about his music you like, because I just don’t see it…

You’re just a hater! I think Plies is great! As a young woman I aspire to be called a Bust It Baby! Okay let me stop. I could barely type that with a straight face. I totally agree with your whole post! Popular music today is horrible! I barely listen to the radio anymore because there’s nothing on there I like and I’m younger than you!! I guess its called maturity or maybe its called i’m becoming an old fart…LOL!! But either way the music sucks! I have to thank Apple for the Ipod and I must thank Toyota for building a AUX connection so I can plug in my Ipod and listen to good music like Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Ledisi. Hopefully artist like this won’t be shut out and given the opportunity to create music that will last. I doubt Plies’ music will have longetivity but he’s popular now so we have to deal with him.

Amen, Flavor of the month syndrome. Andre 3000, gets on their songs and makes them look bad.
